This is an outstanding book for anyone, but particularly anyone who has a desire to sheep hunt or learn about the intricacies of sheep hunting. I started the book on Sunday and finished it on Wednesday. Had a hard time putting it down! This book follows Jim’s sheep hunting journeys from planning and training, to completion. Jim brings you with him on each adventure and provides detail on travel, lodging, meals, guides, quaint towns and remote country. For many of us, sheep hunting is just a dream. This book allows you to follow along in Jim’s adventures as if you were there. I highly recommend!

Tracks On A Mountain made me feel like I was hunting with Jim with his descriptions of the grandeur of the remote wildernesses. I loved the pull of “sheep fever ” and the pressure and patience required by an excellent hunter with a coveted hunt to try and navigate Mother Nature. Who will win in each of his hunts?

TRACKS ON A MOUNTAIN kept me reading for hours.
Being the wife of an elk hunter; who does not hunt herself, I’ve enjoyed listening to game pursuit stories for over 50 years and have even spent time in hunting camps in
    Oregon and Idaho.
Jim’s writing style made me feel like I was seeing the beauty of the great outdoors and evoked a real sense of the extremely challenging terrain of a sheep hunt.
Beautiful photographs of the recipes are an inspiration to experiment with cuts of elk and antelope that find their way to our freezer.
The quality of this hard cover book certainly makes it “coffee table” worthy.

I just finished your exciting book. Being a hunter it put me right back on the mountain.
The exhaustion of climbing steep terrain standing on a high ridge watching it get light,
the highs and lows of the stalk and the joy of success.
Every hunt was so detailed and enjoyable to read about.
Your writing and descriptions were spot on. Well done.
Thanks for sharing your hunts with us.
Shoot straight and remember – if there lead in the air there’s hope.
    Thanks.

Tracks On A Mountain is the first book I’ve read in twenty years or more. When I got started, I could not put it down. A great read. The preparation from getting in shape and finding the right guide; getting tags and planning the trip. Each hunt from pain to the joy the book kept you on the edge of your chair. I see how sheep fever can be a passion. Thank you for sharing your experience from the mountains, hunts, guides, and even the oatmeal ha-ha. This book will be on my friends’ gift list!

Tracks On A Mountain is clearly a “Must Read” for the rookie sheep hunter or a seasoned sheep nut like myself. No matter what the age, I assure you that we will all enjoy, and learn, from this very insightful book.

I was truly captivated by Jim’s style of writing, how he made you feel he was sharing the hunt with you.

Always having been a resident hunter, I greatly appreciated how Jim provided his thoughts with various outfitters as this provided me with an inside look that I have nil experience to lean on.

But # 1 for me was the utmost passion, and respect, that the author held for the ram and the sport of sheep hunting….this clearly was so very obvious throughout the entirety of the book. And as Jim got older you could feel how his endless passion only grew stronger with each, and every year, knowing father time waits for no one.

Since the late 70s I have accumulated a nice collection of “sheep books”, without a doubt Tracks On A Mountain makes my “Top Three”!!!!!

I strongly encourage all passionate sheep hunters, young and old, to add this excellent book to your possession.

To say Sheep Hunters are dreamers would be an understatement and even those who aspire-to-be can find Jim’s book to be a complete pleasure to read. The sights and sounds of traveling through the famous sheep towns of the north and south, along with the vivid descriptions of the high alpine and desert mountains where these wild sheep call home, are all well encapsulated in this journal of Mr. Manley’s impressive accomplishments. ‘Sheep fever’ is highly contagious so readers beware….and ENJOY!!
